Why enroll?

Compassion arises in the presense of suffering, starting with being aware of it, having the courage to be present, coupled with a heartfelt motivation to alleviate it. This innate ability can be a source of inner strength, balance and resilience amidst struggles. While this is an innate skill, based on the circumstance, life experiences and etc - this ability can be surpressed. But fortunately there are methods to reconnect and cultivate this instinct.

Compassion training of many types have demonstrated beneficial effects on self-care, reduced stress, improved capacity for compassion and increased feelings of connection. CCT in particular, was designed to support anyone who wishes to engage in compassion for themselves and to improve relationships with others.

Step by step over the weeks, we build the courage to lean into challenges, to develop our inner strength and to move towards compassionate presence and actions towards ourselves and others around us.

Is CCT for me?

This CCT course offered here at Common Ground is dedicated to supporting anyone on any phase of the fertility journey. Whether you are struggling with primary, or secondary infertility, considering other options, or taking a break, or making peace - you are welcome to join. However, due to this being an online class: to create a safe and mutually supportive environment for all, if you are unable to join the class from a private and undisturbed place (e.g. to avoid having children or infants "pop in"), then it is advisable to wait till a more suitable time when this is possible, to register.

All race, creed, marital status, sexual orientation and gender expressions are welcomed here. This course is suitable for both first-time meditators, as well as those who would like to deepen their compassion practice.

What are the classes like?

The course integrates meditation techniques, interactive discussions in a supportive environment, and lectures as well as real-world exercises to put learning into practice.

Each week, we'll have:

  • Weekly classes: 2 hour class each week that includes a short lecture, group discussion, meditation and in-class exercises with partners and small groups.

  • Mindfulness/Compassion practices: Guided meditation practices in class and at home to develop qualities of mindfulness and compassion.

  • Real world assignments: Informal exercises for practicing compassionate thoughts and actions for day to day life.

The 8-week curriculum covers:

  • Week 1: Settling the mind

  • Week 2: Compassion and kindness for a loved one

  • Week 3: Self-directed compassion

  • Week 4: Self-directed kindness

  • Week 5: Common humanity

  • Week 6: Cultivating compassion for others outside of our immediate circles

  • Week 7: Active compassion

  • Week 8: Integrating practices

*While no prior meditation experience is needed, in order to get the full benefits, a willingness to practice daily meditation is a key part of this training.

I want to join but will have to miss some classes, is that ok?

It is strongly recommended that participants attend all classes. Since each class builds on the previous one, missing a class can impact the ability to engage in class exercises and to get the full benefit of the course. If you have to miss more than one class based on the schedule, it is advisable to wait and register for a course at a time when you’ll likely be able to attend all sessions.

Cancellation and transfer policy

A pro-rated refund (minus a $40 registration fee) will be made for cancellations in writing via email to the instructor prior to the 3rd class. In the unlikely event that the course is cancelled, a full refund of your payment will be returned. Transfer of registration is possible before the course begins.
